Master of Science in Information Technology Management

The technological world of today is one of evolving and constant change. You can turn your house lights on before arriving home, deposit a check into your bank from the couch, or order food to be delivered to your family on the other side of the country, all from a handheld device.

At the same time…someone must develop and monitor the infrastructure of these technologies. Someone must also be able to manage and oversee the departments from which these technologies emanate.

Your Master in IT Management program combines practical technical abilities with management, including those communication skills needed to help you make the most of your career path. From predictive analytics to identifying cyber threats to using big data analytics in large industries, this program will provide a foundation for management opportunities in virtually any industry.

Your IT Management journey will include a minimum of 35 credit hours of coursework in management theory, strategies and tactics in information technology management, information security, legal and ethical issues, emerging trends, business intelligence and decision-making processes. Upon graduation, you will be prepared to:

Organize, manipulate, and analyze data using the latest software programs and technology
Extract viable intelligence using various applications for business data
Make effective decisions related to and using current and emerging trends in information technology
Strategically plan and budget for an IT organization
Identify cyber threats and make data-driven policy changes in relation to said threats
Solve problems within the IT organization using an understanding of organizational behavior and governance
Identify, procure, and develop talent within new employees in the IT workplace
Demonstrate high level communication skills in a global marketplace
Analyze and respond to legal and ethical issues within the IT field

Online, Executive, and Traditional Formats

The Master of Science in Information Technology Management is delivered in three formats: online only, Executive format, and traditional in-seat format at the Fayette campus. The Executive format allows for residential experiences at the CMU main campus located in Fayette. Students seeking to engage in the Executive format will spend two weekends a semester, Friday evening until Sunday late afternoon, engaging in dialogue, seminars, presentations, applications and projects with faculty and other guest lecturers. Students in this program must meet the residency requirement noted below.

Residency & Class Attendance Policy for the Executive format

Residency weekend sessions are mandatory. You must attend each session in order to receive full credit hours. If you miss any part of the session, you will be counted absent for the entire session. No exceptions. If you miss a single class session, you may make it up at the end of the semester and may be required to pay a make-up fee. Missing more than one residency session will result in dismissal from the University.

Admissions Requirements

Admission to Central Methodist University is very competitive as well as selective and we review each application by the same standards.

Application
An earned bachelor’s degree.
Official transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate coursework from accredited colleges or universities must be submitted and directly received from the issuing college or university
A cumulative grade point average on all undergraduate transcripts, (GPA) of a 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale
Statement of intent of 300 to 500 words that includes your interest in the program and career goal
Any international coursework completed must have official transcript evaluations completed and submitted to the University by the evaluation firm. Evaluations MUST include GPA for admission. Approved evaluation firms are:
- Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE)
Documentation of language fluency for non-native speakers of English, such as a score report from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the 8 International English Language Testing System (IELTS). This requirement is waived for students who have completed bachelor’s or master’s level coursework in the U.S. at an accredited institution. The minimum acceptable TOEFL or IELTS scores for admission are:
- Paper-based TOEFL (PBT) - 550
- Computer Based TOEFL (CBT) - 213
- Internet-based TOEFL (IBT) - 77
- IELTS – 5.5
- Statement of intent of 300 to 500 words that includes your interest in the program and career goals
- International students applying for the program and seeking F1 VISA status must provide a copy of their current passport and proof of financial responsibility.
- Admission to the Master’s in ITM Program is completed by a review of the above documents.
  
  Graduation and Participation Requirements
  
  Students will be required to complete a minimum of 35 credit hours of coursework.
  
  Students will have to complete all of the courses noted above, including the Applied Learning Experience course that is required each semester. The applied learning experience component of the program is designed to facilitate the application of knowledge and skills gained in the classroom. Each course has a specific sequence and should be taken in that order, based on prerequisites. Students must pass all courses with no more than two courses below a B grade.
